Saturated fats

Saturated fats can be harmful in excess by increasing your cholesterol, which increases the risk of heart disease.

Mono-unsaturated fats

Mono-unsaturated fats are known to reduce the LDL (the “bad cholesterol” that clogs arteries) and increase the HDL (the “good cholesterol”)

Polyunsaturated fats

Polyunsaturated fats are known as healthy fats. Omega 3 and omega 6 are polyunsaturated fats. They are required for normal body functions and vital to blood clotting, muscle contraction and relaxation, and inflammation. Your body can’t manufacture them so you must get them from food.

Like saturated fats, trans fats raise LDL "bad" cholesterol and increase the risk of heart disease. But unlike saturated fats, trans fats lower HDL "good" cholesterol and may do more damage.
